This is the atrium and when we hired our architects,
and they’re Cannon Design out of Arlington, Virginia, we asked them to make this the most
gatorized building on campus. If you look above us, it is a maple ceiling that is supposed
to look like the underbelly of a gator. If you look at the railings, we had a graphics
designer who put together the cutouts of the gator. And the gator moves throughout the
whole building. One of the more exciting things is the Rion Ballroom. When we moved it up
a floor, that meant we had to do a lot structurally. So, they cut a whole in the roof. There’s
a crane placed down in the loading dock, which was about 70 feet below and would hoist the
steel and place it where the floor used to be…blind. So there was somebody down who
couldn’t actually see what was happening inside the Rion Ballroom. And they were using
hand gestures and radios to figure out how to place it. And now you’ve got this clean
box from where we started building the Rion Ballroom.
