Which House Is Best for You in Fire Emblem: Three Houses? (Student Breakdown)

While many have already decided which House they want to join in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, there are likely just.

While many have already decided which House
they want to join in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, there are likely just as many who haven’t
yet decided. And this is kind of a big decision as it impacts
the path the story will eventually take. But until that point, there’s still a wide-ranging
cast that you can interact with and use on the battlefield. So we wanted to provide a quick breakdown
of all 18 students with a short summation of their personalities and backstories, their
unique Abilities, and their combat possibilities. Much of this information can be found in the
game itself before choosing a House, but we wanted to have it available in one convenient
space. So let’s begin with the Black Eagle House
and its leader, Edelgard. Edelgard is the next in line to become Emperor
of the Adreistian Empire. She can be seen as cold and distant to some,
but the events of her past have driven her to that point. Perhaps you can help her open up to her fellow
students. Her personal Ability is Imperial Lineage which
multiplies her experience earned by 1.2. She excels at Swords, Axes, Authority, and
Heavy Armor making her a good choice for defensive classes like the Armored or Fortress Knights. She is also one of three female students who
players can achieve an S Rank with as the female protagonist. Hubert is completely devoted to Edelgard and
will see to it that nothing happens to her, even if he has to threaten other students
and teachers. He cares little for frivolity and has a personality
that many would consider scary. His personal Ability is Officer Duty which
increases the power of Gambits by 5 when using them. He excels at Bows, Reason, and Authority making
him a fine choice for a mage. In fact, his dark spells lend him naturally
to the Dark Mage class though a Dark Seal is necessary to take advantage of this. Ferdinand is the son of the Adreistia’s
Prime Minister, which is a point of pride for him. He constantly sees himself as a rival Edelgard
and takes his future duty advising her seriously. He has the Confidence Ability which grants
more accuracy and evasion when he has full health. Ferdinand has no weaknesses when it comes
to his skills making him versatile, but his proclivity toward riding makes him a good
choice for a Cavalier and Paladin depending on which weapon you choose to focus on. Linhardt is an extremely intelligent young
man that also tends to be extremely lazy. If a subject interests him, he’ll put in
the effort but otherwise he’d prefer to nap. He also enjoys helping his friends as he doesn’t
have to do the physical labor himself. His personal Ability is the Catnap, which
allows him to recover 10% of his HP when choosing to wait in battle. He excels at Reason and Faith, making him
a good choice for a Mage or Priest, often both depending on the situation. Linhardt is also the only male student that
players can achieve an S Rank with as the male protagonist. Caspar is the second son in his noble family
meaning that there’s nothing for him to inherit. This makes him want to prove himself and understands
having to work for what you want. Loud and boisterous, he’s always up to train
or take down a bad guy. His Ability is Born Fighter, which causes
enemies to have less evasion when he’s adjacent to them. He’s quite good with the new Brawler Skill,
allowing him to use Gauntlets that can attack up to four times in a turn depending on his
speed. Bernadetta is the only daughter of a noble
and a notorious shut-in. She is deathly afraid of making anyone angry
and is quick to put herself down. Despite this, she enjoys a variety of activities
and yearns to make friends. She just doesn’t know how to go about it. Her Ability is Persecution Complex which grants
her an attack bonus when not at full HP. Bernadetta is proficient at Lances and Bows
and little else, but she makes for a fantastic Sniper. Dorothea is the only commoner in the Black
Eagle House and a former opera singer who used her connections to get into the school. She’s eager to find herself a good man in
the hopes of settling down with him before her beauty fades. Her Ability is Songstress which allows adjacent
allies to recover 10% of their max HP at the start of each turn. She excels at Swords and Reason which could
potentially make her a fine Mortal Savant, which can use both. Dorothea is also the second of three female
students who players can achieve an S Rank with as the female protagonist. Petra is a young woman from the foreign nation
of Brigid. As the granddaughter of its king, she is effectively
a hostage though she tries her best to learn from Fodlan and help her home country. She can read the language effectively but
still struggles to speak it. Her personal Ability is Hunter’s Boon which
grants a greater Critical chance when the enemy has less than half health. She also excels at many different weapons,
and the Flying skill, which could help her become a Pegasus or Wyvern Knight. Alternatively, her high speed could help her
become a devastating Swordmaster or Assassin. Next up is the Golden Deer House led by Claude. He’s a devious tactician who’s always
thinking of a way around a conflict while putting forth an air of ease. Though it may not be that way under the surface. His ability is the same as Edelgard’s, allowing
him to earn slightly more experience. He excels at Swords, Bows, Authority, and
Flight giving him plenty of options in how to grow as a fighter. Lorenz is the son of a noble family who fancies
himself a suave ladies man. He earnestly believes in his obligations much
to the chagrin of those around him. Often, he fails to notice what he’s done
wrong. His personal Ability is Distinguished House
which allows him to deal two extra damage while in formation with a battalion, making
him an excellent adjutant. He’s also a bit versatile, excelling at
Lances, Reason, and Riding. All three of these would make him a fine Dark
Knight once he reached the Master Class. Raphael is a commoner from a merchant family
who lost his parents at a young age. Despite this, he’s cheerful and upbeat and
mainly concerns himself with training, eating, and the care of his sister. His personal Ability is Goody Basket which
gives him a chance to recover 10% of his max HP at the start of each turn, based on his
Luck stat. He’s a bruiser through and through, favoring
axes, gauntlets, and Heavy Armor making for a fine Armored Knight. Ignatz is another son of a merchant family
that came to the school since his older brother is set to inherit the family business. While not a fan of combat, he greatly enjoys
the arts. His Ability is Watchful Eye which naturally
boosts his accuracy by a significant margin. This ties in well with his strength with a
Bow making him a potentially potent Sniper. Lysithea is the daughter of a noble and the
youngest student at the monastery. She hates being seen as a kid, but is incredibly
smart all the same. She’s also fiercely protective of a certain
secret. Her Ability, Mastermind, doubles the skill
experience she earns in battle, allowing her to learn new abilities quickly. She’s not one for physical combat but her
proficiency with Reason, Faith, Authority means she’s effective from afar. Marianne is an extremely quiet young woman
who rarely interacts with other people, instead preferring to pray to the goddess or spend
time with animals. Beyond that, most people don’t know that
much about her, and she’s certainly not offering. Fittingly, her personal Ability is Animal
Friend where she’ll recover up to 20% of her max HP at the start of a turn when adjacent
to a cavalry or flying ally. This also means she excels at Riding, Flying,
and Faith. She can use a Sword, but she might make a
better Priest. If you focus on Lances, she could eventually
become a Holy Knight as a Master Class. Hilda is the only daughter of a major noble
and as such she has become quite spoiled and lazy. If there’s a way to get out of work, she
will certainly find it, but she’s still a close ally to Claude and believes in him. Her personal Ability is Advocate which allows
any male allies adjacent to her to do 3 extra damage during combat. Despite her laziness, she excels at both Lances
and Axes though she lacks Authority for Battalions. If given some attention to her Flying Skill,
she could make for a good Wyvern Lord. Leonie is a commoner from a small village
who is very blunt and sees the protagonist as a rival. At a young age, she met the protagonist’s
legendary father which inspired her to become a mercenary. Considering herself his first and best apprentice,
she never backs down from a challenge. Her Ability is Rivalry, which allows her to
do 2 more damage and take 2 less damage when next to a male ally. Leonie has no weaknesses when it comes to
skills but she prefers Lances, Bows, and Riding, potentially making her an excellent Bow Knight
Master Class. Finally there’s the Blue Lion House which
is led by Dimitri, the crown prince of the Holy Kingdom of Fhargus. He lost his parents and many friends at a
young age due to an event known as the tragedy of Duscur. Despite this, he prefers to present himself
as a modest gentleman though he obviously is hiding a lot of pain. Like Edelgard and Claude, his Ability earns
him extra experience. His strengths lie in Swords, Lances, and Authority
potentially allowing him to go in several different directions with no one path being
that obvious. Dedue is a young man born in Duscur who has
loyally served Dimitri for the past four years. He’s often curt with his words and knows
that there are many who don’t trust the people of his country. But he ignores these words and focuses on
the protection of Dimitri. His personal Ability is the Staunch Shield
which allows him to boost his Defense when choosing to waiting in battle. Dedue’s a heavy fighting that’s proficient
in many weapons as well as Heavy Armor, making him a natural fit as an Armored Knight. It’s also possible to take advantage of
his great strength to make him a Warrior or Grappler. Felix is the son of a noble family that places
combat skill above all else. He cares little for pleasantries and instead
focuses on a person’s fighting prowess, only respecting those with strength. He has close ties to Ingrid, Sylvain, and
Dmitri though it seems to be more of a rivalry in the case of the latter. His Ability is Lone Wolf which allows him
to do 5 extra damage when no Battalion is assigned to him. Felix thrives with Swords, Bows, and Gauntlets
making him a good choice for the Hero or Swordmaster Classes. Ashe is the adopted son of a noble though
he was born a commoner. An earnest young man, he looks up to his father
greatly and knows his way around a bargain. His Ability, Lockpick, allows him to open
doors and chests on the battlefield without keys, making him a natural Thief. He excels with Axes and Bows though his only
real weakness is Reason. His chosen Class can really be whatever, but
he seems to prefer the role of Wyvern Knight. Sylvain is the heir to a great noble family
though there seems to have been complications in his past. He can be a loyal friend though he has a great
weakness for women, often dating more than one at a time, much to the dismay of those
around him. His personal Ability is Philanderer, which
allows him to deal 2 extra damage and take 2 less damage when adjacent to a female ally. His only weakness his Bows but he has a love
of Riding, making him an easy choice as Cavalier or Paladin. Mercedes was born to a noble family in the
Empire but somehow ended up a commoner in the Kingdom. She is a soft-spoken young woman who can be
quite ditzy yet pays close attention to those around her, wishing to take care of them as
best as possible. She’s also best friends with Annette. Mercedes personal Ability is Live to Serve
which allows her to recover the same amount of HP she restores to another unit. She has little skill with weapons and prefers
the use of Reason and Faith. Considering her Ability, she would excel as
a Priest though Reason could also be focused upon to make her a Gremory Master Class. Mercedes is the last of the three female students
who players can achieve an S Rank with as the female protagonist. Annette is the niece of a noble who’s looking
for someone in particular at the school. She excelled at a previous school of sorcery
and is an extremely diligent worker though she lacks skills in the kitchen. She’s also best friends with Mercedes and
the two are often seen together. Her personal Skill is Perseverance which allows
her to Rally an ally in order to temporarily increase their strength. Despite her proclivity toward Reason, she’s
also quite handy with an Axe. No Class favors the two of those together
so one will need to be focused on to bring her to her full potential. Finally, there’s Ingrid, the daughter of
a noble and childhood friend to Felix, Sylvain, and Dimitri. She’s also possibly the most diligent of
all of them though troubles at home often vex her, and she tries to hide this. Her Ability is Lady Knight grants her extra
power and accuracy when using a Gambit. She has no weaknesses when it comes to her
Skills so it’s more of a matter of whether you’d prefer her as a cavalry unit or pegasus
knight. Either way, she’s a solid all-around unit. And that’s all the students in each of the
three Houses in the game. Each one brings something unique to the table
and their stories are far more fleshed out than what we presented here. But which House will you ultimately choose? And, since you can recruit students to your
own House, which characters will join you? Let us know in the comments and be sure to

  1. So that pronunciation of Mercedes's name…I SWEAR that's how it's pronounced in the game. I'm very much aware of how it's normally said. But the game makes a point of saying it that way. ~Derrick

  2. I was going to chose the Golden Deers because Claude, but the house members made me chose Black Eagle.

  3. i was thinking about golden deer and then getting mercedes, felix and sylvain from the blue ones = good idea?

  4. Guess I have to start over. "You get all this info before choosing a house". Cause I played for 10 minutes and was asked which House I want to join but never got any info. Unless you get asked again?

  5. Sylvain from the Blue Lions can be recruited by F!Byleth near the very beginning just because she's a girl and the guy loves his women. So if you choose Blue Deers, you're at a 1 character disadvantage already. Not to mention Golden Deer has the best characters from the get-go, and the best looking leader (which should have been bi but ok).

  6. I can't make decicions like these! It took me half an hour of brainstorming before I settled with Dimitri. And atm i chose him. I had regrets xD

Too many cool characters in all houses, whith every house having people that don't interest me at all.. ugh

Edit: I started over and went for Edelgard..

  7. I wanted to lead the Golden Deer before I got the game.

After I got it? KICKIN IT WITH CLAUDE, BABY. And my man Ignatz NEVER misses. Love the house so far!

  8. Went with House black eagles on my first run they lack frontliners although Edelgard can become quite the tank if you level her up.

  9. Picking a house with a good combination of waifus and husbandos is so hard when you're pansexual/bisexual!

  10. Lol before watching this video I’m glad I’ve chosen Golden Deer not only the meme team but C L A U D E ?

  11. Hey great informative video, and love that you pointed out all the lesbian relationship options (very useful) but what about the male same sex relationship options? The gay ones? I know there aren't many in this game (2) but you passed over both of them.

  12. I started with the black eagles. But now i think i start again with Blue lions. They have the cutest waifus. But my girl Petra is going to get recruited asap!

  13. It's worth noting that like in echoes, not every unit learns the same spells. Lysithea for example learns different faith and spells compared to Marianne, Marianne for example can't learn warp, but Lysithea can. And for the record, Warp is disgustingly broken, it's only downside is it can only be used once a battle. But Lysithea has a crazy high magic growth and will easily be able to send somone halfway across pretty much every map in the game before act 2.

  14. I really thought the Golden deer where useless now I realized they are the best and should be the rulers of all

  15. Joining Golden Deer, recruiting Dorothea, and S-Supporting her. And I’m Fem Beyleth, so my bi-ass is getting some gay content today

  16. Red house has some top tier waifus but the blue house leader seems like such a nice dude that along makes me want to choose that house. Whats that? I don't even have a switch to play the game? Don't worry I'm working on it alright.

  17. Even though I don't own the game yet and I already decided what house to choose by what I've read from previews: the Black Eagles: female leader and Bernadetta (cutest girl I've seen in the game)

  18. I picked blue lions first, then the golden deers. I loved different points of the 2 paths. Very cool !
    (Let's go for edelgard now)

  19. My choice was made like this…..

    My favourite colour is BLUE
    I’m British – LIONS
And I value honour, nobility etc. so with those factors I chose The Blue Lions rather than looking at stats and making my choice because let’s be honest they’ve all got pros and cons. And all the houses are pretty decent so I chose more on a personal level than looking at the stats and who might be good for what etc. And I’m happy with my choice.

  20. Dang… I prefer the Black Eagles house overall aesthetically and because magic but I like the students from Blue Lions allot more than the others lol

  21. Black Eagles- well balanced between melee, magic, and ranged units. Variety of units.

Golden Deer- 2 Extremely good archers and great mages complimented by decent melee units.

    Blue Lions- horses… horses everywhere.

  22. Can someone explain the hype behind this game? I’ve always adored the fire emblem series and I’ve played every game minus the tactics game. But the whole teacher thing is throwing me off a bit with the life sim idea. It just seems like a time sink away from the original games.

  23. From one who (almost) went through all three main routes, I can confidently say that BL has probably one of the best lords in FE history EVER.
The best maps I think also in BL and GD.

  24. To me, based on the leaders alone, The Black Eagles should be a no brainer. Although it is slightly hard mode indirectly by not having a straight up healing unit to start with. But story wise, I feel like The Eagles are near the "canon" choice for a couple reasons. Also Edgelgard right off the bat is frank about herself, while the boys tend to hide their secrets and perhaps things people may find off about them.

  25. I have 3 accounts in my switch (me, my brother and my nephew) can i play all three houses at once, so I Don't need to wait until i finish the game to choose another house..???

  26. Black Eagles: Probably the most diverse/interesting/bruh moment route
Blue Lions: If you want to be a headhunter.
Golden Deer: Happy times best boys and girls house. Meme time <3

  27. SPOILERS Dread carefully, if you dare.

Black Eagles: Extreme atheism. Go for or go against the pope.

Blue Lions: Go feral. Get depressed. Kill every last one of them

    Golden Deer: Claude

Oh, and you also get to kill your former students in a three-way battle too. Even outside of the whole war, too! Can you believe that?

  28. honestly i was really excited to pick the black eagle house but by chance i guess i ended up in the blue lion house and i can’t say i was disappointed ahajskkakajs

    DIMITRI = BEST BOY

(i am playing golden deer now i’m about to go sicko mode on edelgard she better have some dang good qualities because right now she is my least favorite leader

  29. Think of choosing a house like choosing a class.

Black Eagles-Mage:They have a strong affiliate with magic
Blue Lions-Fighter:They have Knights who are well known for their skill.
Golden Deers-Thief:They are known for pragmatic tactics and have a skill with archery..

  30. i'm going to be honest, i saw lockpick on ashe and was sold…. and then i went on to like literally everybody else more than ashe

  31. I went golden deer because how sexy hilda looks in her S rank. GAT DAYUM DEM BEWBIEZZZZ! Golden Deer best class forever! Claude is also best bro.

    "NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE OUTSIDER"

  32. Started with Blue Lions and it breaks my heart to not be able to recruit Dimitri on the other routes which I'm tackling now… I love his arc and character so much that my husband got jealous. xD I really don't want to help Edelgard because I can't stand her no matter what…
Especially Ashe, Dimitri, Anne and Felix – when attacking – were killer beasts.

  33. Blue Lions plus Hilda, Petra & Lysithea, perhaps Ferdinand and Leonie and… Lorenz if I still want someone else.

  34. At first I was like I'll choose golden deer, then I wanted to pick blue lions and now I want to choose black eagles so I don't know which house I want to be in

  35. My first play through was with the Blue Lions. I liked the story, but all my students died. I was only left with about 3 people including myself mid way through the time jump so I’m starting over lol.

Thinking about Golden Deer this time

  36. See, I wanna protect all my sons and daughters in Blue Lions, but the Meme Team (Golden Deer) is pulling me in. Black Eagles is…the Black Eagles? I don’t really care for them, so they’ll probably be my last playthrough. [*SPOILERS*]

I also don’t wanna hurt my beautiful sons and daughters.

  37. Linhardt remainds me a friend of mine: brilliant but lazy…
Anyway, I love Linhardt's hobby is taking a nap hahaha it's hilarious. I didn't know that could be considered as a hobby..hmmm

  38. I really hate how in these types of communities people are just “hahaha look at the funny quirky character” or simply gravitate towards attractive characters instead of the finer details or in this case the blue lions having by far the best house
